"Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good..."

This is a collection of, probably, my favorite "bad" songs, or as Run-DMC stated in 'Peter Piper': "Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good". Some of the songs are not bad per se, such as the two blues songs nor the heart-breaking rendition of "Desperado", but they are all cult classics, either in the past or (in my book) in the future.

Enjoy!

Bad Meaning Good collection -

culled from various sources, mostly WFMU's

blog.

0. XM Promo for the 70's channel. For those

of us who remember FM radio from the late

70's, this is as close as I've come to

hearing someone replicating the sound of

those radio promos.

1. Celebration - Strawberry Shortcake.

Funny at first, then Chris-Hansonishly

creepy when it gets to the "What's your

pleasure?" line. Simply because it's sung

by Strawberry Shortcake.

2. Big Cynthia - Big Women. Captured on

minidisc in '03 thanx to 90.9 FM out of

Huntsville, AL (the voice of the A&M

Bulldogs, I think). They played some

wonderful "Chittlin' Circuit" blues on the

weekend there, and this is one of two on

the file. Both will be scratchy, because I

was recording the music from Florence at

the time.

3. Jimmy Mitchell - Mac the Knife. If you

like this, I have a whole freakin' disc of

his stuff. The sheer ernestness of his

delivery is the sound of courage.

4. Ice Chest - Mel Waiters. More from 90.9.

Real scratchy at first, but wonderful.

5. Fish - Leona Anderson. First of two that

are simply indescribable. Enjoy, if you

can.

6. Fluffy - Gloria Balsam. Ditto.

7. Downtown - Mrs. Miller. Oh, dear Elva.

8. Cow Patty - Jim Stafford. Any child of

the seventies remembers this cult classic.

9. Mississippi Goddam - Nina Simone. Better

known for her blues and jazz singing, as

well as her magnum opus (as featured at the

end of 'Inland Empire'), 'Sinnerman', this

is more a neat riff. Funny, though.

10. Party Join Us - Shin Chan. Thanx to

Pink and Cartoon Network, I was introduced

to Shin Chan. This song is for Jordan more

than anyone else.

11. Desperado - Langley School Musical

Project. Far better than the original.

12. Lookin' for a Virgin - Sweat Talley.

For Pink.
